Floor Decking Installation to PRI-400 I-Joists

The fastener table below is suitable for use with all PRI-400 joist depths. It covers the use of mechanical fastenings when fixing the decking to the I-Joists flange.

Notes:

  1. If the combined thickness of the floor deck and the flange depth will allow, use a longer annular ring shank nail. However, no benefit is gained if nails protrude through the complete depth of the flange.
  2. Although some PRI’s have flanges with the extra width which provides for a wider nail surface and the possibility for a larger ends distance for nails, the panel ends tend to raise slightly if fixings are made more than 10 mm from the panel end.

Guidance on Installation

  • Stagger the end joints in each successive row of panels.
  • Leave an expansion gap of 3 mm around all four edges of adjacent panels, including T&G panels.
  • Follow recommendations in table above for nail size, type, spacing and edge distances.
  • Put blocking under panel edges if square edged panels used.
  • Use panels with the appropriate span rating to match the joist centres used. Panels with an allowable span greater than the actual joist spacing may be substituted for panels of the same thickness with an allowable span matching the joist spacing.

Enhanced Foor Performance

Increased floor stiffness can be obtained by gluing the tongue & grooved joints of the Sturd-I-Floor or, if square edged panels are used, by gluing the decking to the blocking pieces. Glue all decking to the I-Joists.

Reduction in floor squeaks, excessive deflection, vibration, bounce and nail-popping is also achieved.
