  • It provides technical Information, case studies, free publications and downloadable photography. This information is likely to be most relevant to architects and construction professionals.
  • The English section includes an experimental interactive APA Specification Writer to help architects correctly include APA trademarked plywood when writing their NBS specifications.

Background

  • APA is a nonprofit trade association that has grown and evolved with the engineered wood industry. It is based in Tacoma on the edge of the softwood forests of the Pacific North West of America.
  • Founded in 1933 as the Douglas Fir Plywood Association, and later known as the American Plywood Association, it finally became APA – The Engineered Wood Association to better reflect the range of products manufactured by APA members.
  • These products now include plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), glued laminated timber (glulam), composite panels, wood I-joists, and laminated veneer lumber.
  • APA is also a leading source of information about engineered wood products for a wide range of applications. APA member mills produce approximately 70 percent of the structural wood panel products manufactured in North America. Products manufactured by APA members bear the APA trademark program.
  • One of APA's primary functions is quality assurance. The APA trademark appears only on products manufactured by association member mills and signify that the manufacturer is committed to APA's rigorous program of quality inspection and testing. APA also maintains a 37,000 square-foot research centre at its corporate headquarters in Tacoma, Washington.
